UKS2 Activity Day – Fairlands Valley Park

As an end of year reward trip, UKS2 spent the day at Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage. The weather wasn’t very kind…its was windy and raining…in fact during lunch time it poured down with rain. But the sun did shine occasionally, and we still had lots of fun!

At the start of the day…enthusiastic, happy and DRY children!

Our first activity was the ‘High Ropes Course’. The children were all issued with safety helmets and harnesses.

Our second activity was canoeing. We all put on our buoyancy aids and picked up an oar. It was quite windy so it was decided that there should be 3 of us in each canoe…even so, some of still struggled to get away from the ‘dock’ and out on the lake!

Only one canoe capsized! But somehow we all got a little bit wet…maybe we were splashing each other???

After a VERY wet lunch break, our final activity was raft building…some of our raft designs were ‘interesting’  and some even floated (for a short while)!IMG_4590 IMG_4592 IMG_4600 IMG_4601

Once they were safely on the lake, we attempted to board our vessels…

They didn’t quite sink…but they weren’t ‘sea worthy’!

We had a moment to reflect on our designs and then, the race began… IMG_4625 IMG_4631 IMG_4639 IMG_4645

Somehow we all ended up in the lake!

We got absolutely drenched…but it was great fun!

Kissing it Better

On Monday 6th July our Upper Key Stage 2 dressed once again in their costumes from the Nostalgia Cafe to join up with the charity Kissing it Better.  KIB works to provide activities and entertainment designed to make life a little more interesting for people who are in hospital and we travelled with Miss Fry and Mrs Dingley to the Lister in Stevenage.  Once there, we sang several choruses from the summer show in both the foyer and on the Elderly Care wards.  Many people stopped to listen and a number joined in with the familiar tunes.  Our costumes were much admired and generally we were very pleased to have been able to bring something different to the long days of a hospital stay
